After surveying hundreds of acres Kentucky Heartwood found that the Forest Service has marked and sold an estimated 13,163 more trees than what was approved in the 2017 project decision, and have marked trees for harvest in protected riparian buffer zones.
On Monday, April 27, KRC'S Environmental & Community Defense team assisted Kentucky Heartwood with communication to the Daniel Boone National Forest demanding that the Forest Service immediately stop all logging on the Greenwood Project in McCreary and Pulaski Counties.
"As you are aware, to the extent that there is overharvesting that exceeds that which was studied and approved, such actions would be a violation both of Forest Service regulations and planning obligations, and would also constitute a prejudicial action in violation of the limitations imposed on the Forest Service under the National Environmental Policy Act."
