Kentucky Resources Council (KRC) proudly announces the release of its Fiscal Year 2024 Annual Report, showcasing a year of impactful achievements and a steadfast commitment to environmental justice across the Commonwealth. What began as a mission to provide effective legal support for those living downhill, downwind and downstream of pollution has evolved into a powerful movement for clean energy, environmental protection and community empowerment.
This year’s report highlights our Fiscal Year 2024 achievements, including providing over $1.75 million in legal services across the Commonwealth. We acted on multiple fronts—advocating in courts, before the legislature, and with state and local governments. Our team tackled key environmental and energy issues, from making the case for coal plant retirements, to preventing illegal pollution discharges into our waterways, to defending citizens’ rights to appeal planning and zoning decisions. We supported local communities, including citizens in Letcher County in fighting a proposed federal prison and those in Madison County concerned about environmental impacts of new development projects.
Our flagship initiative, Kentucky Environmental Accountability Project, entered its second year, advancing environmental health, justice and equity. KRC scrutinized pollution permits, provided public commentary on major air pollution sources, and pursued accountability for environmental violations across industries—from aluminum smelters to coal mines. In Public Service Commission cases, KRC represented the Joint Intervenors, championing a cleaner and more equitable energy landscape for Kentucky.
As we celebrate 40 years of progress, we remain focused on the path ahead—envisioning a future with clean air, safe water, healthy soil and protected natural resources. Thank you for standing with us in building a healthier, more just Kentucky.
